An art project organised in Blakestown Community School under a Fingal County Council artist in residence scheme recently culminated in an exciting exhibition of work in the Cow Theatre, at Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park.
The school applied to take part in the 2009 / 2010 arts programme and artist Alan Mongey was invited by Fingal Arts Office to work with the then second year class and their teacher, Eileen O' Mahony.
Alans work with the students included a field trip to the National Gallery of Ireland where the students documented what they saw through sketches made in their visual diaries. During the course of the year the students developed their life-drawing,life casting and clay modelling skills and intrigued by the human figure, the concept of creating life size versions of themselves were born. The figures were created using wire mesh and castings of the students faces and hands. Dressed to impress and styled in clothing unique to themselves, the figures had a commanding presence at the exhibition.
Art Exhibition
The exhibition opened on the 16th of November 2010 and was officiated by Cllr Ken Farrell, Mayor of Fingal.
